We’re going to cover a lot of valuable information in this review – so please feel free to use our jump links to go to whichever part of the review you want to learn more about. However, if you are a real trooper and want to read the whole review – please feel free to do so!

The Start of Buying a Dreamcloud Mattress

Before we dive too deep, we need to start at the beginning. The first step of this review process was heading over to the Dreamcloud website to see which mattress I wanted to order. If you want to look at what they have to offer, you can do so here.

The first thing I had to assess was what size mattress I needed. My wife and I live in a mid-sized apartment, so I wasn’t hunting for a very big mattress. That’s why I decided to go with the queen size they offer, which is what I’ll be talking about for the remainder of this review.

Dreamcloud does not offer a twin size mattress, but they do have a twin XL. For your convenience, I’ve put together a table that breaks down the dimensions, weight and coil count of all the different sizes they offer:

Mattress Size Dimensions: LxWxH (inches) Weight (lbs.) Coil Count
Twin Dreamcloud does not offer a Twin size mattress
Twin XL 80x39x15 67 434
Full 75x54x15 86 580
Queen 80x60x15 99 682
King 80x76x15 123 868
California King 84x72x15 123 868

Okay, you’ve decided which size mattress you want to go with. Now, you actually have to order it! So, what exactly does that entail?

Ordering a Dreamcloud Mattress & Navigating Their Website

The ordering page is pretty straightforward. You start by choosing which size you want. I chose the queen size mattress, which at the time of this review was on sale for $999. This was down $200 from its original price. They are constantly running sales like this, so keep your eye out.

But wait, there’s more!

You have a few more optional additions available to choose from:

  • Mattress Protector (+$99)
  • Luxury Bed Sheet Set – White – Cotton (+$119)
  • Platform Bed (+$250)
  • Adjustable Bed Frame (+$799)
  • Memory Foam Pillow (+$99)

Shipping | How Long Was The Wait?

Their website says that orders placed on the same day will ship within 2 – 3 business days. This was exactly the case for my order; I had my mattress within 3 business days.

I know what you’re thinking, a product that actually ships on time? “Wow! Sign me up!” And that absolutely should be your reaction! This is definitely a great product, but I’ll get more into that later. Right now, I just want to tell you that your mattress should arrive when they say it will. And that’s a plus in my book!

The Arrival of My Dreamcloud Mattress

The Unboxing

Literally, this is my experience with the “unboxing” in every sense of the word. For those of you unfamiliar, a lot of mattress brands are now shipping mattresses inside boxes. It’s strange, but it works. See for yourself:

Dreamcloud Mattress Still in Box

Now, this was admittedly my first experience with a mattress coming in a box. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the set up went rather smoothly. I was able to pull it right out and cut the sealed baggy and presto! It was inflated and ready for use. It had a pretty weird smell out the bag, but more on that later.

The First Night With My New Mattress

My personal experience was rather enjoyable the first night. The Dreamcloud mattress set much higher than my previous, so that was an adjustment. However, the name “Dreamcloud” is no joke: emphasis on the cloud.

My first impression of laying on the mattress was delightful. It really did feel like I was laying on a cloud. I mean, it at least felt like what I would imagine laying on a cloud would be like.

The First Week

After about a week with this new mattress, the new mattress smell from being out of the box had mostly subsided. My wife seemed to feel otherwise, but she is more sensitive to that kind of thing. Still, between both of us, we were thoroughly enjoying the new mattress.

The First Month

I have some lower back issues that I struggle with, so I am always weary to try out a new mattress. I won’t say this new mattress was a cure for my back, as that would be ludicrous to make such a claim. However, in this first month of owning my new mattress I did have significantly less back pain.

I know what you’re thinking. No, it wasn’t because my old mattress was that bad, it was because the Dreamcloud is just that much better.

Pros and Cons of the Dreamcloud Mattress

Here, I want to examine a few pros and cons to potentially help you decide whether or not you want to order a Dreamcloud mattress of your own. First, we’ll look at the cons. Because, well, I want to save the best stuff for last!

Cons

Con #1: Bigger Than a Traditional Queen

My wife and I set up this mattress the night we got it, and were disappointed when we went to put on our sheets only to find that they don’t quite fit over the whole mattress. A minor inconvenience, sure, but it is still annoying. Since the dimensions of the mattress were accurate though, I really can’t blame Dreamcloud for this one.

Con #2: Fresh Out of the Bag – The Smell Lingers a Little

After being stored in fresh seal packaging, your mattress gets boxed up and shipped to your door. When we first set up the mattress, the “new mattress smell” was really strong and it lingered for about a week. Now that a month has passed, the smell seems to be completely gone.

Pros

Pro #1: The Price

Out of all the different mattress brands that you can find out there these days, Dreamcloud isn’t as “mainstream” as some of the others. That’s simply because they are a smaller company that doesn’t spend millions of dollars on advertising as the big brands do.

However, the problem with these big brands is the cost to purchase one of their mattresses is outrageous. That’s not an issue with Dreamcloud; it’s not only a super reliable mattress, but the price is definitely more in line to fit most budgets!

Here is a price breakdown:

Mattress Size Current Price List (October 2019)
Twin No Twin Size
Twin XL $899
Full $1,099
Queen $1,199
King $1,399
Cal King $1,399

Pro #2: The Comfort

I won’t sit here, write this review and tell you that this was the most comfortable mattress that I have ever slept on. If I’m being completely honest, I don’t know which bed I would bestow that honor upon.

That’s beside the point, though.

What I can say about the Dreamcloud mattress is that it is beyond comfortable. It has a nice balance of firmness and softness. I talk all about the materials and fiber of the mattress later.

The Nitty Gritty | Breaking Down the Dreamcloud Mattress Layer by Layer

Alright, time to break this down for all of you. When you get a Dreamcloud mattress it’s not just a cloud wrapped up in a box as the name might suggest. What you are actually getting is a technically crafted mattress with six different layers.

Layer Breakdown of Dreamcloud Mattress

Now, what exactly do these six layers consist of? That’s what we’re about to find out!

First, we’ll give you a quick look at the different layers. Then, we will break each one down in more detail.

Component Description
Layer 1
  • 1 inch
  • Standard foam
Layer 2
  • 0.5 inches
  • Standard foam
Layer 3
  • 1.5 inches
  • Gel memory foam
Layer 4
  • 2.5 inches
  • Soft conventional foam
Layer 5
  • 8 inches
  • Pocketed innerspring coil unit
Layer 6
  • 1.5 inches
  • Firm conventional foam

Now, as I said, that’s just a quick look. Let’s break this down into more details so you have a better understanding of what all this means.

Layer 1 and Layer 2 | Cover / Quilted Euro Top

The reason we grouped these two layers together is because together they make the cover. The layers are quilted into each other in order to make a Euro Top. Neither of these two layers consists of memory foam but are made from standard foam instead.

Layer 3 | Comfort Layer

Alright, we’re at layer three! This layer consists of high-quality memory foam that will mold to the bodies that lay on it. It also has a gel swirl injected into the memory foam, which gives the bed a little elasticity.

Layer 4 | Support Layer

This layer is slightly more stiff than the other layers in this bed. It helps provide some resistance for your body as you lay down. This resistance is going to provide your body much needed support to prevent aches and pains.

Layer 5 | Pocketed Innerspring Coil Layer

This one is a doozy of a layer. There is a lot that goes into this, so buckle up!

This is what layer five is used for on the Dreamcloud mattress:

Breathability / Air flow / Temperature Regulation The innerspring mattresses have a reputation of being able to promote airflow through the whole mattress
Edge Support Higher-gauge coils are used for the perimeter of this layer’s footprint help brace the edge of the mattress when weight is put on it. This also helps lower your chances of rolling off the bed.
Motion Transfer Pocket coils are not connected to each other directly. This allows coils to not be dragged down by each other when pressure is added.
Support / Contour The coils create a supportive surface that is made to conform to the individual’s natural curves of the body.

Layer 6 | Support Layer

This is another support layer that is basically the exact same material as layer four.

Overall Impressions | Sleepreports.com Official Rating

These are the following criteria that I look for when I review a mattress for Sleepreports.com:

  • Comfort
  • Pressure Relief
  • Breathability
  • Value
  • Smell
  • Warranty
  • Edge Support
  • Durability

Comfort – 5 / 5

I really enjoy this mattress; it has the right balance of softness and firmness. As I said earlier in my review, I can’t say it’s the most comfortable mattress in the world because I am in no position to give out that title. However, I’ve tested a lot of mattresses over the years, and when you compare this to other mattresses in this price range, it is a cut above the rest.

Pressure Relief – 4 / 5

Got back issues? Any other pain issues you might be struggling with?

This mattress isn’t the cure by any means, but it does a great job of relieving pressure points while you sleep.

Breathability – 3.5 / 5

I thought the breathability of this mattress could be a little better. After sleeping a few nights, I feel like I didn’t get a lot of air flow through the mattress. Since I overheat while I sleep, this is really important to me.

Value – 4.5 / 5

This mattress is a good value; there’s no doubt about it. Why didn’t I rate it a 5/5 for the value category? Well, because personally I think all mattresses are a little overpriced no matter how you slice it.

Is it a good price? Yeah… for a mattress.

Smell – 3 / 5

I talked about it earlier, but yeah, that fresh out of the box smell is potent. And it does last a little longer than you would like it to. I felt like it wasn’t too awful after about a week or so, but my wife complained about it for about a month.

So there, you’ve been warned about the smell. The severity will just depend on how sensitive your noise is.

Warranty – 4 / 5

So, I need to start this one with a little bit of a disclaimer. I haven’t actually used the warranty, so my rating is purely based on the description on their warranty page. I read through it and didn’t find any shifty wording or reason to be concerned.

I did get in contact with their customer service team, via their live-chat on the website and on the phone. Everyone seemed super helpful and I had my questions answered in a timely fashion. I will be back to update this review if I need to use my warranty for this mattress.

Edge Support – 4 / 5

I haven’t fallen off this bed…yet! Keyword being yet.

Although in saying that, I really don’t plan to. The resistance around the edges of this mattress is above average. This is definitely a feature I enjoy, as I spend most of my time on the edge of the mattress.

My wife won’t admit it but she’s a text-book mattress stealer. She seems to be “asleep” when she pushes me further to the edge, but I’m not so sure…. Anyways…

Durability – 5 / 5

Whether you want it or not, your mattress will take a lot of abuse over the years. During your life you will spend roughly one third of it sleeping on average. And that only takes into account sleeping at night (if you sleep eight hours a night). If you also consider things like taking naps, general relaxing, sex, eating, and other things like that; there really is no getting around it. You spend a lot of time on your mattress.

Luckily for you, the Dreamcloud mattress is holding up strong! I’ve read tons of customer reviews, and there is a very common denominator in how well this mattress holds up and takes abuse. If you buy a Dreamcloud, prepare to own it for a very long time!

Grand Total – 4.125

Conclusion | Do I Recommend Buying a Dreamcloud Mattress?

Yes. And No. It’s complicated alright?

It really all depends on who I’m recommending it for!

Let’s take a look at who should and shouldn’t purchase this mattress:

Should Purchase:

Couples – This mattress is great for couples. It does a terrific job of maintaining motion transfer. My wife always gets up earlier than I do in the morning and not once have I been woken up by her getting out of bed.

People Who Like a Soft Mattress With Semi-Firm Support – This mattress has some good support layers, but it isn’t overbearingly firm. So, if you are looking for a slightly firm mattress, Dreamcloud may be just the mattress for you.

Shouldn’t Purchase:

People Who Want a Very Firm Mattress – This mattress does have a soft outer layer that is not ideal for people who prefer extra firm mattresses. If you’re looking for more support and firmness, we have plenty of recommendations on our mattress review page where you can read reviews on different brands that specialize in firm mattresses.
